Ruby's Road Trip Days 1&2

For the ride on our first day, Ruby couldn't just lay down with the rest of the inanimate objects in the cargo area of the van.  She peeked up and looked over Merritt's shoulder for the whole ride.  When Rhonda caught this shot, it looks like Ruby may have been coveting Merritt's Fedora and moving in for the grab.

Molly has accepted Ruby as a sister and plays with her like the boys play with one another.  Here's a little Barbie time they shared this evening.  So far they don't argue quite like the boys, so we'll see if it's really like a sibling relationship.  Although Molly is still wearing her swimsuit from an afternoon by the pool, Ruby didn't join us for the swim.

On our way out to the Yogurt Factory for an after dinner treat, I caught this paparazzi shot of the Molly escorting her friend into the shop.

Meet Ruby

Well, all the votes have been cast.  I even threw in a few of my own, hoping that my Life Group would see her as I do.  They didn't like "Sarah Pearl," the name of one of my mother's cousins who my grandfather thought to be the homeliest woman who ever lived.  Her name is forever synonymous with un-pretty in my family now.  I also put in the name "Roxy Heart," and homage to the musical Chicago, in which the character Roxy Heart continually chases fame and degenerates into the most base kind of person in its pursuit.

Well, after all the votes were counted, RUBY was the stand out winner.  It seems that a handful of the group had that name come to mind before ever hearing the list.

The winner of the $10 i-tunes gift card is.... TERESA FROM SEATTLE.

We'll try to upload a few pics of Ruby as we travel over the next couple of weeks, but Her full adventures may not appear until we return after the first week of August!

Name Our Doll Contest

Name our Doll Contest

In a couple of weeks, our family will be taking a trip to our family reunion in Seattle.  Along the way we have planned to make several stops for family fun and to visit some friends.  Rhonda and I thought it would be fun to take this pretty little doll along for the trip and see what pictures she might pose for as we travel and as she meets new friends.  She is an antique doll in very bad condition.  Unfortunately, she was not over-loved, she was over exposed to the elements and her enamel is badly damaged.

She was donated to a missions trip fund raising rummage sale.  Our efforts to find a collector to buy her and doctor her up, have not been very successful (or overly ambitious either).  We will try to sell her on-line when our trip is over and donate the funds to an upcoming missions trip.

Anyhow, for our photo project we need a name for our doll.  And we want you to help choose.  Simply post a comment on my blog with your suggestion.  And we will have our life group vote on the names at the end of the contest.  Simply the name with the most votes from our life group will be the winner, will be used in the photo blogging throughout our family trip, and will remain with her as she is sold for our missions fund-raising.

As for the prize, the winner of the Name Our Doll Contest will receive:  $10 i-tunes gift card.

And oh yeah, if multiple people suggest the same name, the one that appears first as a comment will be considered the winner.  If first & middle names are are suggested in a single entry and only one of the names matches another entry, the entries will not be considered to be matching and will each be entered into the vote.

So, let the contest begin.
